
HAMILTON – A dreary offensive performance Thursday in their opener at the Hamilton tournament resulted in their first loss of the 2025-26 campaign, but the No. 24 Brownwood Lady Lions bounced back with a resounding victory in the nightcap.
The Lady Lions took down reigning Class 3A state semifinalist Winnsboro, 65-45, after suffering a 36-29 setback to Tolar, a team a year ago that reached the regional semifinal round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Against Winnsboro, Brownwood converted 50 percent (24 of 48) of its field goal attempts, 26 percent (4 of 15) of its treys, and 86 percent (13 of 15) of its free throws.
The Lady Lions raced out to a 15-7 lead after one quarter that grew to 31-14 at intermission and stood at 50-27 through three frames.
Nylah Hall poured in 17 points followed by 14 from Jade Morin, seven from Jaidyn Hope, six from Hannah Deen, five each from Icess Hall and Jentry Coalson, four apiece from Trinity Roberts and Demayha Hooker, and three points from Cambree Jefferson.
In the loss to Tolar, Brownwood trailed 12-7 after quarter, 24-18 at halftime, and 26-24 heading to the fourth period.
The Lady Lions sank just 21 percent (10 of 47) of their field goal attempts, including 19 percent (4 of 21) of their three-point tries, and a mere 36 percent (5 of 14) of their free throws.
Icess Hall finished with nine points followed by six each from Nylah Hall and Deen, three apiece from Roberts and Jefferson, and two points from Morin.
The Lady Lions (4-1) are back in action at 9:50 a.m. Friday against Goldthwaite.
