
Three members of the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets football program received superlative honors, among a total of 19 accolades, handed down by the American Southwest Conference.
First-year head coach Coby Gipson was tabbed Coach of the Year, quarterback Bryce Still was named Freshman of the Year, and Elijah Cobos was selected a Co-Special Teams Player of the Year.
Also, HPU senior linebacker Jesus Mendoza was picked for the Outstanding Sportsman Team.
Landing on the first-team offense were sophomore receiver Chance Hehman, graduate senior guard Behn Marin, senior center Dominik Reed, and junior running back Blessing Ngene.
The first-team defensive selection was senior defensive back KD Bookman
Making the second-team offense were freshman receiver Jamel Toney-Black, sophomore guard Javier Mendez, and Still at quarterback.
Second-team defensive picks were junior lineman Cameron Hall, senior linebackers Cade Rochinski and Derrick Lewis, junior linebacker Michael Brown, senior defensive backs Justin Kay and Kadarius Carr, and Cobos at punter.
The Yellow Jackets posted a 4-6 overall record and 2-4 mark against ASC competition.
