
Your local community American Legion Post 196 from Brownwood has provided financial assistance to 10 Federal Civilian Workers from Camp Bowie during the first week of November 2025.
Recently, American Legion Post 196 made an inquiry as to how many Federal Civil Service workers were furloughed due to the Government Shutdown that began on Oct. 1 As a result of the research, American Legion Post 196 found 10 Federal workers with family members, who also happen to be registered as veterans that serve their country.
The Legionnaires from Post 196, with a sense of urgency in this crisis, voted on and passed a proposal to provide financial assistance to these workers. A total amount of $2,400 was distributed among the 10 workers in hopes of providing assistance with such needs as food.
As a non-profit organization, Post 196 raises funds through gun raffles, clay bird shoots, and through the generosity of local donors, with a a focus on giving back to the local community, especially in times such as these.
In serving the United States Armed Forces, the American Legion believes in a calling to serve God and country, and upon exiting the military still have the calling to give back to the community.
Those interested can partner with the American Legion Post 196, for any veteran whose has served at least one day on active duty, or if you’re not a veteran you can be a sponsor and donate or support the fundraising events.
