
The Brownwood Lions’ first basketball season under new head coach Jorden Young began over the weekend, with losses to Benbrook Friday and Lampasas Saturday.
In Friday’s 76-69 loss at Benbrook, Brownwood trailed 26-18 after one quarter, 43-35 at halftime, and 61-52 through three periods.
Cannon Calvert paced the Lions’ effort with 31 points followed by 14 points from Elias Perez, seven from Tru Pesina, six each from Bennett Windham and Jordan Gilbert, three from Juston Burt, and two points from Santiago Alvizo.
In an 85-43 loss at Lampasas Saturday, the Lions were down 24-7 after one quarter, 40-20 at the break, and 68-37 heading to the fourth period.
Calvert again led Brownwood with 18 points followed by Gilbert with eight, Windham with six, Perez with five, Hayden Brumbelow with three, Carter Massey with two and Burt and Pesina with one point apiece.
The Lions (0-2) play their home opener at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday as they welcome Dublin.
