The City of Brownwood announces the appointment of Jesse Mares as Assistant Chief of Police for the Brownwood Police Department. Mares, a Brownwood native and Brownwood High School graduate, has served with the department since 2011.

During his time with the department, Mares has held multiple positions, including Field Training Officer, Patrol Corporal, and Patrol Sergeant. In 2017, he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant and later that year was selected as Brownwood – Brown County SWAT Team Commander. In these roles, Mares has led patrol operations, officer training, and critical response efforts, including arrests of suspects involved in violent crimes and multi-agency drug operations.

“Jesse Mares has extensive experience in both patrol and specialized operations,” said Chief of Police James Fuller. “As Assistant Chief, he brings a new generation of leadership to the department, along with the knowledge and experience to support our officers and operations into the future.”

Mares has been recognized for his leadership and professionalism throughout his career. He has worked to enhance operational effectiveness and strengthen community partnerships within the department. As SWAT Commander, he has coordinated and led numerous critical operations with an emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Mares’ appointment is effective immediately. A formal Assistant Chief Pinning Ceremony was held at the Law Enforcement Center, which included the pinning of the Assistant Chief badge and the reciting of the oath of honor.
