Early, May girls open basketball seasons with victories under new head coaches

EARLY – Coming off their first playoff appearance since 2018 a year ago, the Early Lady Horns basketball team began the 2025-26 campaign under new head coach Tryndee Greenwell with a 52-44 home victory over Goldthwaite Saturday.

Early led 11-6 after one quarter and 22-16 at halftime, but fell behind 35-32 after three periods before rallying down the stretch.

Avery Williams scored a team-high 19 points for the Lady Horns followed by 15 from Andie Simpson, five each from Aliyah Harlan and Abagail Ferguson, four from Gabby Benson, three from Mia Gomez and one point from Tierney Burns.

For Goldthwaite, Rylee Greenway posted a team-high 16 points and Kenley Howard chipped in 15 points.

The Lady Horns (1-0) will play host to Stephenville at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

May Lady Tigers 51, Graford 39

MAY – The May Lady Tigers kicked off their 2025-26 basketball campaign Friday, their first under new head coach Kristi Sandoval, with a 51-39 home victory over Graford.

The Lady Tigers led 14-13 after one quarter, 28-17 at halftime, and 43-26 through three frames.

Scoring for May were Jordyn Gerhardt with 18 points, Lauren Hicks with 11, Chloe Lord and McKenna Landes with six each, and Callie Harper with five points.

Next for the Lady Tigers (1-0), they travel to Gatesville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to face a Class 4A non-district opponent.
