Tommie Yarbrough, a devoted teacher’s aide and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Coleman County Medical Center in Coleman, Texas. Born on July 29, 1932, in Paducah, Texas, she grew up in the area and graduated from Paducah High School, laying the foundation for a life dedicated to service and education.

Tommie’s career as a teacher’s aide flourished in the school districts where her husband, Charles Yarbrough, served as superintendent, notably in O’Brian, Lohn, O’Donnell, Trent, Iredell, and Mozelle. Her commitment to education and kindness towards students left a lasting impact on many lives.

On March 7, 1952, Tommie proudly married Charles Yarbrough, with whom she shared a wonderful life filled with love and family. Together, they built a home that exemplified warmth and togetherness. Tommie was known for her loving nature and giving spirit, qualities that endeared her to both her family and her students.

Tommie had a passion for antiques, often indulging in the joy of shopping for and collecting depression glass, a hobby she found delight in sharing with others. She was deeply connected to her loved ones and took immense pride in her family.

She is survived by her son, Charles T. Yarbrough and wife Kathy of Mozelle, along with her beloved grandchildren, Kim Watkins and husband Lyndal, Melinda Yarbrough, and Charles R. Yarbrough and wife Jana. Tommie held a special place in her heart for her great-grandchildren, Alan Yarbrough, Collin Matheny, Alexis Yarbrough, Dylan Matheny, Makenzie Yarbrough, Cheyenne Yarbrough, Addy Watkins, and Kyler Watkins. Her family also includes her sister-in-law, Kaye Yarbrough, and her children, Cindi Yarbrough and Mike Yarbrough.

Tommie is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Brewer and Edith McDonald Brewer; her daughter, Linda Edwards; three brothers, Ben, James, and Gary; and one sister, Marie; and brother-in-law, Ralph G. Yarbrough.

A graveside service to honor Tommie’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at the Gouldbusk Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Alan Wallace officiating. The family invites all who knew and loved Tommie to join them in celebrating her life and the legacy of kindness and love she leaves behind. Arrangements are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, in Coleman.

The family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in memory of Tommie be made to Gouldbusk Baptist Church, 7801 FM 1026, Gouldbusk, Texas 76845. Any contributions made to Gouldbusk Baptist Church in her honor will be used in our local community. We invite you to share fond memories and words of comfort and condolence with the Yarbrough family by signing the guestbook on Tommie’s tribute page at www.stevensfuneralhome.com. Stevens Funeral Home is honored to serve the Yarbrough family.
