Bangs dealt second straight district defeat by De Leon, 60-20

DE LEON – The Bangs Dragons dropped their second consecutive District 5-2A Division I contest Friday night, falling to the league co-leading De Leon Bearcats, 60-20.

Bangs (5-4, 2-2) finished with 309 yards of total offense – 197 rushing and 112 passing – with a pair turnovers against De Leon (7-2, 3-0).

Cason Tidwell rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown, Jaxon Duncan tacked on 69 yards rushing and reached the end zone once, and Hunter Withers completed 7 of 18 passes for 85 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Connor Bible caught the touchdown pass and led the Dragons with four catches for 28 yards.

Other offensive contributors included Eliseo Rivas with 20 yards rushing and one catch for 3 yards; Joaquin Rubio with two receptions for 74 yards; Rex Guerrero with 15 yards on the ground and a 7-yard catch; and Dayton Vrana with 13 yards on the ground.

Defensively for Bangs, Tidwell recorded 10 tackles with two for loss, followed by Ryan Alqorum with four tackles, along with three each by Duncan, Guerrero, Rubio, Braxton Wommack, Rooster Laughlin, and Jayden Robinson. Rubio also tallied a sack.

The Dragons will attempt to solidify the district’s third seed playoff seed next week as they host the Coleman Bluecats (2-7, 1-3), fresh off a 26-19 victory over Ballinger (3-6, 0-4), to close out the regular season.
