
ROUND ROCK – A pair of Brown County runners placed in the Top 5 individually at the UIL Class A cross country state championships Friday at Old Settlers Park.
Zephyr Bulldog Aaron Fagan was the boys bronze medalist in a time of 17:06, which trailed only state champion Sebastian Talamantez of Comstock (16:20.3) and runner-up Brett Maclas of Neches (16:59.6).
Meanwhile, Blanket Tiger Alex Valdez came in fifth place in a personal best time of 17:13.1, as the fourth-place runner was Parker Kramer (17:11.9) of Irion County.
In the final team standings, Zephyr placed fifth as joining Fagan were Reese Hamm (35th, 18:19.6), Spencer Marwitz (39th, 18:23.4), CJ Byers (61st, 18:55.1), Slade Butler (112th, 20:04.8), Ethan Prochaska (125th, 20:44.4) and Chris Armstrong (142nd, 22:49.9).
Just four runners from Blanket ended up competing, so the Tigers did not qualify for the team standings. Joining Valdez Friday were Wyatt Meadow (114th, 20:07.8), Kade Russell (145th, 23:48.3) and Karter Keel (146th, 23:48.3).
In Class A girls action Friday at the state meet, Rising Star’s Laynee Allgood placed 14th with a personal-best time of 12:36.5; Sidney’s Kallin Woodley was 24th overall in a time of 12:59.5; Zephyr’s Katie Williams came in 71st place in a time of 13:53.0; May’s Jordyn Gerhardt was 72nd clocked at 13:53.3; and Mullin’s AJ Evans ranked 89th out of 145 runners with a time of 14:13.8.
On Saturday, Brownwood Lady Lion Rebekkah Delgado competes in the Class 4A girls run at 8:15 a.m., while the Goldthwaite and Coleman girls take part in the Class 2A girls race at 10:55 a.m
