Orbin Jay Purcell Sr., age 81, of Grosvenor, passed away October 31, 2025. Born in Grosvenor, Texas to Nita Belle Meador Purcell and Fred Scott Purcell, Orbin spent his life rooted in the place he loved most. OJ’s family will host a visitation from 1 to 2 PM on Tuesday, November 4th at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, with Graveside services immediately following at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.
He worked as a cement truck driver for Ingram Enterprises for about 20 years, where he was known for his hard work, reliability, and friendly spirit. Outside of work, Orbin found his greatest joy in simple pleasures – camping, fishing, and raising chickens. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and a quiet strength that drew others to him.
Family was at the heart of everything Orbin did. He helped raise his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of his life. His love, guidance, and humor will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Orbin is survived by his beloved companion of many years Gay of Brownwood, Texas; son, Jody Purcell and wife Karen of Tyler, Texas; daughter Anita Purcell of Brownwood, Texas; step daughters Donna Miller and husband Mike of Zephyr, Texas and Lisa Hoffman and husband Mike of Goldthwaite, Texas; granddaughter Sophia Solis and husband Greg and their kids Remi Kate and Abigail Beau; grandson Brett Chaput and his son Jaysten Chaput. He is also survived by numerous loving siblings, cousins and friends. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the family he built.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Brenda Young Purcell; son, Orbin “Bo” Jay Purcell Jr; Grandson Brendan Lee Purcell; Great Grandson Braxton Wyatt Chaput.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
