Well they say something about doing a column while the column is going on. You’re not supposed to do that. Columns like this you’re supposed to read them and think about it and all that. So, I’m doing something stupid here.

The World Series is under way and I’m going to do a column before it closes. Smart, huh? A column before it closes. Here’s the deal. You’ve got the Dodgers on one side, they are the National League representative and the American League is some place up in Canada. So, it’s the Dodgers versus Canada . Anyway, it’s the Dodgers versus the Blue Jays.

I pick the Dodgers. That’s just me and as far back as I can remember the Dodgers have been a pain. I know that I’m a huge Astros fan and I will tell you right now that without injuries I believe the Astros could take the crown this year, but with Alvarez out and all the pitchers, it’s like they are running a hospital ward. Anyway, forget the Astros. It’s the Dodgers and the Blue Jays. I will tell you right now that I pick the Dodgers. I think the Dodgers will win this thing. I think they will hang on at the end if they have to, but they will win in my opinion. Some of you who are obviously not LA fans will disagree with me but I will hold to that. I will brag about it if I happen to win. I think the series is 1-1 now as they head out to the West Coast for the games left.

Why will the Dodgers win? Very simply, they’re better. That doesn’t always hold true in the World Series. Sometimes a less team comes up with a heck of a roll and a lesser team, a lot of times, wins the World Series. Anyway, the Dodgers in my opinion will win. They just have better pitching. They have Freddy Freeman. They’ve got outstanding hitting and they are tough for anybody to beat.

That takes me back to where I used to be in the World Series. I was born so long ago that the teachers played the World Series on the radio while we were in school! Some of them did but not all of them, but they played the thing while we were in school because every game was played at 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon. It was unusual to say the least. Teachers, I don’t think, have to make that choice any more. I don’t think many of them would cater to that, but I’m glad that I was raised back then. It makes for a nice story.

The Dodgers, I say again, are just a better team than anybody else in the league. It’s as simple as that. I saw Don Larson throw his perfect game. I think it was like game six in the ’55 or ’56 series, somewhere along in there. Anyway, he threw a great game, a perfect game. I don’t know why I even brought that up because Larson’s no hitter is mostly in people’s memories.

This World Series will go to the Dodgers. That’s my pick and I’ll stand with it.

Until next time, so long everbody.
