Martha Ann Hartman Hilton passed away on October 18, 2025 at her home in Brownwood at the age of 90. A visitation with family will be held at Heartland Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 23, 2025 and burial will take place in Houston, Texas next to her parents and brother.
Martha was born on February 22, 1935, to Charles F. Hartman and Jewell Paine Hartman in Houston, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a Permanent Teachers Certificate. She married Frank T. Hilton on May 25, 1957. During his working 42 years for the Boy Scouts of America and serving two years in the U. S. Army at Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Texas, they lived in El Paso, San Marcos, Austin, Tyler, San Angelo and Brownwood, Texas
She was a member of First Methodist Church, Brownwood; Johnson Sunday School Class, FMC, where she played the piano for many years; and the Friends of Rotary Club. She worked as a Dictaphone, a legal, a clerical and statistical Typist in four towns. While working as a stenographer and secretary at the Texas (State) Department of Health in Austin in the 1960s, she was elected Secretary to Chapter #28, Texas Public Employees Association (TPEA).
In Brownwood she was pianist for church services at Church by the Lake, Lake Brownwood, in 1994, and the early service at First United Methodist Church, Brownwood, in 1996. She was secretary of the Schubert Music Club two years; Treasurer of the Rotary Ann Club five years; member of the Sanctuary Choir, FMC, Brownwood for, 12 years; on the Advisory Committee to the MHMR Board several years; member of the Sanctuary Choir, St. Luke UMC, San Angelo, 17 years; typist at the Lighthouse for the Blind and member of the Hammond Organ Club in San Angelo. She and Frank raised or cared for seven cats in five towns.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Charles Paine Hartman. . She is survived by her husband Frank T. Hilton, niece Kimberly Ann, Georgetown, Texas, nephew Charles Alan Hartman, Houston, one great-nephew, and one great-niece, two great-great-nephews, and one great-great niece.

The families especially want to thank Alpha Omega Hospices, nurse Sheila Walters and aide Michelle Fields who took exceptional care of Martha in her final year.
