CORPUS CHRISTI – The Zephyr Bulldogs are headed to the UIL Class A cross country state championships Friday, Oct. 31 in Round Rock after a third-place finish at the Region IV-A meet here Monday. Also, Lady Bulldog Katie Williams punched her ticket to Old Settlers Park as well, with her regional performance.

For the Bulldogs – who finished with 80 points, which trailed Tilden McMullen County (37) and Comstock (78) – Aaron Fagan (17:45.49) placed 2nd overall and will be joined at state by Spencer Marwitz (5th, 18:47.93), Ethan Prochaska (23rd, 20:09.57), CJ Byers (26th, 20:28.79), Reese Hamm (40th, 21:39.74) and Chris Armstrong (72nd, 23:55.1).

Williams ran a 12th-place time of 14:12.74 for the Lady Bulldogs – as the Top 10 runners not on a qualifying team also move to state – followed by Nataly Lopez (29th, 15:15.51), Avery Stevens (34th, 15:33.2), Rebecca Evetts (83rd, 17:32.3) and Taylor Lemond (121st, 19:59.45).

The Lady Bulldogs were eighth in the final team standings with 237 points, leaving them behind state qualifiers Tilden McMullen County (25), Aquilla (111), Moulton (155), and Jonesboro (185), along with Comstock (188), Brooketon (225), and Groveton Centerville (225).

Mullin’s AJ Evans also qualified for state on the girls side with a 16th place overall finish at regionals, in a time of 14:29.94.

The Class A girls will compete at 10:55 a.m. Halloween morning, followed by the Class A boys at 11:25 a.m. at the state meet.
