Steve Thomas Stewart was born on October 18, 1948. At the age of 76, he passed away in Abilene, Texas, on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Steve was born in Polk County, Texas, to Curtis and Mary Stewart. Steve graduated from Danbury High. He married the love of his life, Lisa Stewart, on September 17, 2001, in Austin, Texas. Steve served his country in Vietnam as an Army medic, where he received the Purple Heart medal. Afterward, he worked for Dow Chemical Company in Freeport, Texas, for many years. Following his retirement there, he continued to serve his community for 25 years with the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department. While working for the sheriff’s office, he was one of the original members of the Brazoria County Mounted Patrol. Steve was a simple man; he loved his ranch, loved to hunt, being with his family, and at the end of the day, a nice cold beer with a shot sitting on the porch with his dogs.
Steve Stewart was preceded in death by his father and mother, Curtis and Mary Stewart; his sister Betty Pruitt; his son Thomas Blaine Stewart; and his mounted patrol partner, and in his own words, the best horse there was, Spud.
Steve Stewart is survived by his wife Lisa Stewart; their daughter Courtney Scott and her husband Chris Scott; their son Nathan Vackar and his wife Kim Vackar; his sister Rosie Pelt and her husband Danny Pelt; his niece Erica Maddox and her husband Shane Maddox; their granddaughter Brynn Tavarez; and many other grandchildren.
Steve Stewart will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of service, love for family, and unwavering dedication to his community will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. May his memory bring comfort and peace to our family and friends during this time of loss.
A Memorial will be held at Brownwood Funeral Home on October 18, 2025. Online condolences may be made at www.brownwoodfuneralhome.net.
