I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. 2nd Timothy 4:7

Glenda Goldman Douglas, age 87 passed away on October 10, 2025. Funeral services for Glenda will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 18, at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00PM. Interment will follow the service at Eastlawn Memorial Park.

She was born on April 22, 1938 in Dallas, Texas to Raymond and Mary Goldman. She grew up the oldest of three girls in Duncanville, Texas. Her high school years were highlighted by activities with the Methodist church and playing basketball. In 2022, she was inducted in the Duncanville Athletic Hall of Fame, for her performance as a leading scorer for her team. For about 30 years, she held the record for the most points scored in a women’s basketball game in the state of Texas. Her grand children refer to her as “a baller!”

She continued her basketball play at Paris Jr. College, but soon married Charles Douglas on August 24, 1957. Their family grew with the birth of Dana and Glen. They raised their children in Texarkana, Denison and Brady before retiring in Brownwood, Texas.

Glenda will be remembered by many students as a school librarian. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and art projects. One of her nieces said “she would make it, sew it, cook it, paint it, and even dream it! She recently completed a very important project of designing and sewing part of her granddaughter, Caroline’s wedding dress. She loved to share recipes, but was often accused of leaving out important ingredients, because the results were never as good as when she made it! She made many recipes for her family, domino groups and various church activities.

She leaves behind: her husband Charlie, who she recently celebrated 68 years of marriage, a daughter Dana and husband Michael Cloy and daughter in-law Nancy Douglas. She has 5 grandchildren Tyler and wife Tiffany, Logan and wife Heather, Caitlyn, Carson and wife Maddie, and Caroline and husband Riley. She has 3 great grandchildren: Brody, Burkley and Millie. She has many extended family members to include siblings; Ann Beddingfield, Gayle and Rodney Whiddon, sister in-law Sue and husband John Rose and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by a son Glen Douglas, brother in-law James Beddingfield and her parents.

Glenda had a passion for libraries and her church. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials for Glenda by donating to your local library or to the building fund for Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

Online condolences can be shared with the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
