
The City of Brownwood shared the following information on social media Thursday:
White Cane Day, officially designated on October 6, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson and the U.S. Congress signed a joint resolution and proclaimed that October 15 be celebrated as White Cane Safety Day every year.
Brownwood’s observation is Oct. 11, 2025.
Significance: The white cane is both a tool for safety and a symbol of blindness, promoting courtesy and special consideration for the blind on streets and highways.
