Brown County Treasurer Ann Krpoun has announced her retirement, effective December 31 of this year.  In a letter to County Judge Shane Britton and the County Commissioners, Krpoun cited health concerns following two surgeries this year.  Krpoun’s elected term of service runs through December 31, 2026.  The County Commissioners will have to appoint someone to complete the term, serving from January 1 through December 31 of next year.

Ann Krpoun has served the County in the Treasurer’s Office for twenty-nine years.  The first nine were as an assistant to her predecessor Judy Stirman.  After Stirman’s retirement, Krpoun was elected Treasurer in 2006 and has been in office ever since.  In her letter to the Commissioners Court, Krpoun issued her thanks to “the citizens of Brown County, past and present elected and appointed officials, and all my co-workers of Brown County for their trust and support during my years of service.”

The text of Krpoun’s letter of retirement is show below.

October 2, 2025

To:  Honorable Shane Britton, County Judge

The Honorable Brown County Commissioners

Gentlemen:

After undergoing two major surgeries in 2025, I have decided to not seek re-election for the coming term, and to retire from my position as Brown County Treasurer effective midnight, December 31, 2025.

I would like to thank the citizens of Brown County, past and present elected and appointed officials, and all my co-workers of Brown County for their trust and support during my years of service, nine years as Assistant County Treasurer and twenty years as Brown County Treasurer.

I view my twenty-nine years of service to Brown County with great pride; my twenty years as the Brown County Treasurer makes me the longest-serving Treasurer in the history of Brown County.  I believe that I am also the first Republican to hold this office in Brown County.

As I prepare myself to leave the office I have held for two decades, I am proud to report the investments I have made during my tenure have earned over $4.3 million dollars for the taxpayers of Brown County.  In addition to this revenue, I have implemented many innovations to the procedures employed by the Treasurer’s Office.

As a reminder, despite my letter of retirement, by statue, I will continue to hold the authority and privileges of the position of County Treasurer until a replacement is sworn in after my retirement date.

Best Regards,

Ann Krpoun

Brown County Treasurer
