The mixed doubles duo of Blake Hutchins and Ashlyn Bundick collected Tuesday’s win for the Lions and Lady Lions

ABILENE – The Brownwood High team tennis season ended in the bi-district round of the playoffs with a 10-1 loss to Brock Tuesday afternoon at the Rose Tennis Center.

Brownwood (4-10), the third seed out of District 7-4A, secured its lone victory over District 8 runner-up Brock from the mixed doubles team of Blake Hutchins and Ashlyn Bundick (4-6, 6-2, 10-8 over Duffer and Golightly), as the duo did not drop a match in district or the postseason.

Also competing for Brownwood Tuesday in boys action were the doubles teams of Trine Baugh and Eric Smith, Aiden Oplotnik and Ian Cernvantes, and Cooper Morgan and Eli Hutson.

Singles players for the Lions included Hutchins, Smith, Baugh, Oplotnik, Morgan and Cervantes.

For the Lady Lions, doubles tandems were comprised of Kirra Neff and Jami Patterson, Gigi Rodriguez and Emory May, and Coulter Day and Arely Carrere.

Competing in singles action for the girls were Bundick, Neff, Patterson, Rodriguez, May, and Carrere.

“Brock is a really tough team and we wish them the best in the area round,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Dalton Hutchins. “Big shout out to Mrs. Smith for making the trip to Abilene to cheer on the tennis team. We appreciate all the parent support this season and we look forward to competing in spring tennis.”
