
During Monday’s meeting of the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees, 15 teachers within the school district were recognized for achieving “Exemplary” status within the Teacher Incentive Allotment program.
The Teacher Incentive Allotment program is designed to elevate the education profession by providing districts with systems and funding to recruit promising new teachers, and retain their best teachers. A total 48 BISD teachers were eligible for a combined $479,000, an increase from 34 eligible for a combined $309,000 the year prior.
The BISD ‘Exemplary’ teachers are Amber Villalpondo from Brownwood Middle School; Coggin Elementary’s Heather Bowers, Glenda Uecker, Heather Sweaney, Kate Means and Brittany Estess; East Elementary’s Stephanie Ruth and Kasiti Rice; Northwest Elementary’s Kayla Simpson, Linda Cooper, Denice Bessent, and Sara Bernal; and Woodland Heights Elementary’s Stephanie Morton, Leah Lee, and Jessica Gamblin.
Also at the meeting, Hilary Stegemoller, representing the office of U.S. Congressman August Pfluger, presented Blake Hutchins with a Congressional certificate for his life-saving actions of dislodging an obstruction from fellow high school student Durham Brown’s throat via the Heimlich maneuver on Sept. 17.
The Nursing and Wellness Report was provided, and 34,619 nurse visits took place the previous school year, which was down approximately 3,200 from the year prior. Around 1,600 students received vision, hearing and spinal screenings, and 182 for vision and 39 for hearing were referred for additional assistance.
The English as a Second Language Report stated that 83 certified teachers aiding the 131 students taking part in the program.
Passed on the Consent Agenda were the Student Health Advisory Council appointments for 2025-26; the T-TESS Evaluators; Purchase of Library Materials; Purchase of Library Materials in November; and the minutes from the Sept. 8 meeting.
The board will next meet on Nov. 10.
