MERTZON – The Class A Division I No. 3 May Tigers chalked up their fourth consecutive victory Friday night, a 60-12 road triumph over the Irion County Hornets.
Leading the charge offensively for May (5-1) against the Irion County (1-5) defense was Lane Goodson with 125 rushing yards and three touchdowns and 118 passing yards and three more scores. Jackson Lusk added 41 yards on the ground and a touchdown and finished with 54 receiving yards and another score. Kaden Watkins amassed 66 yards receiving and a touchdown, Kobey Morris finished with 20 receiving yards and reached the end zone once, Mikey Scheriger rushed for 18 yards and a touchdown, and Cayson Dail contributed 22 receiving yards.
Defensively for the Tigers, Goodson logged six tackles followed by five from Kayden Psencik, four from Lusk, three tackles and an interception from Scheriger, three tackles from Morris, and two tackles apiece from Watkins and Britton Morrow.
Next week, May hosts Rocksprings (3-3), which is coming off a 60-13 loss to Leakey.

Blanket 56, Woodson 8
BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers’ win streak reached five games Friday night with a 56-8 triumph over the Woodson Cowboys.
Blanket (5-1) generated 316 yards of total offense – 168 rushing and 148 passing – against Woodson (0-6).
Kannon Kensing rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns, caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Mason Beck, and threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Beck, who also rushed for 41 yards and a score and passed for 56 yards. Leo Valdez threw a 67-yard touchdown to Brian Shannon, Alex Valdez added a 38-yard rushing score, and Cole Furry caught a 29-yard pass.
Defensively for the Tigers, Brayden Cain tallied nine tackles and an interception, Abel McLaughlin notched eight tackles, Beck finished with six tackles and an interception, Karter Keel logged six tackles with a fumble recovery, and Kade Russell chipped in five tackles.
Next week, Blanket kicks off the District 13-A Division II slate at home against Gustine (4-1), which downed Morgan, 54-8, Friday night.

Zephyr 56, Santa Anna 6
ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Bulldogs rebounded from their only loss of the season to make quick work of the Santa Anna Mountaineers, 56-6, Friday night.
Zephyr (5-1) compiled 379 yards of total offense behind a balanced attack of 196 rushing yards and 183 passing yards.
Chayden Woodcock rushed for 76 yards and three touchdowns, Jetson Gowin added 54 rushing yards and a touchdown, and CJ Byers contributed 52 yards on the ground and a trip to the end zone.
Quayde Heard passed for 123 yards and a touchdown and Ethan Prochaska added a 36-yard scoring strike. Gowin caught a 60-yard touchdown pass, Reid Hamm finished with two catches for 56 yards and scored once, Woodcock added two grabs for 36 yards, and Wyatt Frank hauled in a 24-yard reception.
Defensively, Byers tallied a team-best six tackles followed by Gowin, Woodcock and Bauer Blair with five each, and Prochaska and Troy Kubin with four tackles apiece.
Santa Anna (2-4) mustered just 96 yards of offense – 90 through the air and 6 on the ground – with a pair of turnovers.
Brock Brown threw for 90 yards with a touchdown to Jeremiah Davila, who caught two passes for 55 yards, including the 46-yard scoring reception. Kain Watson added two catches for 32 yards and Jordan Diggs rushed for 10 yards.
Defensively, Watson and Tony Blaine led the Mountaineers with seven tackles each followed by five apiece from Davila and Brown, three from Donovan Jackson and two by Landon Ragsdale.
Next week, Zephyr begins District 13-A Division II action against Rising Star (4-2), which picked up a forfeit win over Priddy (1-5) this week. Meanwhile, Santa Anna ventures to Woodson (0-5), which is coming off a 56-8 loss to Blanket (5-1), in a non-district tilt.

Brookesmith 54, Olfen 44
OLFEN – The Brookesmith Mustangs rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to snap a two-game losing streak with a 54-44 road victory over Olfen.
Down 34-26 at halftime, Brookesmith (3-3) rushed for 267 yards behind Addy Heard’s 214-yard, four-touchdown effort. Jase Julien chipped in three receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown, along with 34 rushing yards and two more scores. Austin Loyd passed for 45 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 15 yards, and Blake Loyd scored on a 2-yard carry.
Defensively for Brookesmith, Aryn Ribble registered six tackles trailed by five each from Heard and Robert Eachus, four from Julien, and three each from Austin Loyd and Travis Jarvis.
Next week, Brookesmith opens its District 15-A Division II slate at No. 3 Richland Springs (4-1), which recorded a 59-14 win over Lometa Friday.

Richland Springs 59, Lometa 14
LOMETA – The Class A Division II No. 3 Richland Springs Coyotes continued their winning way Friday night with a 59-14 road triumph over the Lometa Hornets.
Richland Springs (4-1) finished the night with 328 yards – 170 rushing and 158 passing – against the Lometa (3-3) defense.
Cohen Ethridge rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown, passed for 31 yards and another score, and grabbed three receptions for 23 yards and scored once. Billy Perry threw for 90 yards and three touchdowns and chipped in 26 yards rushing, while Ethan Deeds passed for 37 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 23 yards with a touchdown, and caught a 19-yard scoring toss.
Evan Deeds added a team-high five catches for 64 yards with a touchdown and Eli Hutchins pulled down a 25-yard pass.
Next week, Richland Springs begins its quest for the District 15-A Division II championship at home against Brookesmith (3-3), which knocked off Olfen, 54-44, Friday night.

Goldthwaite 65, Hubbard 0
GOLDTHWAITE – The Goldthwaite Eagles celebrated homecoming Friday night with their first District 10-2A Division II victory of the season, 65-0 over the Hubbard Jaguars.
Goldthwaite (3-2, 1-1) amassed 424 yards of total offense – 213 through the air and 211 on the ground – with one turnover, while limiting Hubbard (2-3, 0-2) to 40 yards – 28 on the ground and 12 through the air – with three takeaways.
The Eagles were sparked by Blake Howard’s 213 passing yards and four touchdowns as Slade Allen caught five passes for 89 yards with a touchdown, Zach Rodriguez hauled in a 55-yard scoring toss, and Talen Gardner grabbed two touchdowns among his three catches for 30 yards. Casen Wiedebusch recorded two receptions for 39 yards as well.
On the ground, Landry Sanderson rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown, Hayes Greenway found the end zone twice and ran for 47 yards, and Owen Campbell chipped in 26 yards.
Next week, Goldthwaite visits the undefeated Frost Polar Bears (5-0, 2-0), who secured a 38-14 victory over Meridian Friday, in a key district battle.

Sidney 58, Jonesboro JV 6
SIDNEY – The Sidney Eagles picked up their second win Thursday night, both against JV squads, as they knocked off the Jonesboro JV, 58-6.
Ethan Scantling rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns of 17 and 53 yards, while Josh Heath finished with 71 rushing yards and reached the end zone twice from 49 and 10 yards out, and Rees Miller chipped in 61 yards on the ground and a pair of scores from 37 and 26 yards.
Weston Bunting returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown, while Ryan Crawford tacked on a 26-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
Dylan Terpstra led the Eagles with nine tackles followed by six from Crawford, five each from Scantling, Miller, Bunting and Nick Aldape, who also recovered a fumble. Daylan Gilbert and Lucas Wilson tallied two tackles apiece.
Sidney (2-4) has a bye next week before it begins District 13-A Division II action Oct. 17 at Gustine (4-1).
