
MINERAL WELLS – The streak is over as for the first time since Oct. 19, 2021 – a span of 30 contests – the Brownwood Lady Lions have earned a district volleyball victory.
On Friday, the Lady Lions chalked up a four-set 25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 25-19 road victory over the Mineral Wells Lady Rams to improve to 15-14 for the season and 1-3 against District 6-4A competition.
Sparking the Lady Lions was Demayha Hooker with 12 kills followed by Aniah Hines with 11, Hannah Deen with nine, Jentry Coalson with six, Kaydence Chandler with five, Icess Hall with three, and Maddi Scott and Ashanti Green with one each.
Hall dished out 45 assists while Hines contributed one, and Hines also led the way with three aces trailed by Deen, Scott and Chandler with two each, and Hall with one.
Defensively, the digs leader was Scott with 14 followed by Hines with 10, Grace Sparks with five, Hall with four, Hooker and Sara Stubblefield with three apiece, Coalson and Deen with two each, and Chandler and Green with one apiece.
Brownwood did not record a block in the match.
The Lady Lions wrap up the first half of District 6-4A action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Stephenville.
