Trine Baugh won a singles match and doubles match, with Eric Smith, for Brownwood (4-9, 2-2), which will next face Brock in the bi-district round of the playoffs

The Brownwood High tennis team suffered a narrow 10-9 home loss to Stephenville Tuesday in the District 7-4A and regular season finale.

Picking up wins for Brownwood were the mixed doubles team of Blake Hutchins and Ashlyn Bundick (6-1, 6-1 over Joel Mangus and Mia Inocencio), along with the boys doubles teams of No. 1 Trine Baugh and Eric Smith (6-4, 4-6, 10-6 over Travis Williams and Bryson Hutchins) and No. 2 Aiden Oplotnik and Ian Cervantes (6-1, 6-0 over Karsten Brigman and Enoc Mendoza).

All the singles wins were delivered on the boys side by No. 1 Hutchins (7-5, 6-7 [11], 10-6 over Williams), No. 3 Baugh (6-2, 4-6, 10-7 over Omkar Kannan), No. 4 Oplotnik (6-2, 6-0 over Brigman), No. 5 Cooper Morgan (7-5, 2-6, 10-8 over Kyler Virgin) and No. 6 Cervantes (6-2, 6-2 over Mendoza).

“The boys battled and won all four of the 10-point tiebreakers, but we just came up short one match,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Dalton Hutchins. “Blake and Ashlyn were undefeated in district in mixed doubles. Blake was undefeated in district at the No. 1 singles and Trine was undefeated at No. 3 singles.”

The Lions and Lady Lions (4-9, 2-2), who came in third in District 7-4A, will face District 8 runner-up Brock in the bi-district round of the playoffs at a time, date and place yet to be determined.
