COLORADO CITY – The Bangs Dragons will carry a three-game win streak into the District 5-2A Division I opener in two weeks thanks to a second consecutive shutout in a 56-0 road victory over the Colorado City Wolves Friday night.

Bangs (3-2), which surpassed its 2024 victory total with the win, compiled 337 yards of total offense – 247 rushing and 90 passing – with just one turnover against the Colorado City (0-5) defense.

Cason Tidwell again led the ground game with 77 yards and a touchdown, Jayden Robinson contributed a 65-yard scoring sprint, and Eliseo Rivas tacked on 51 yards and reached the end zone once. Dayton Vrana added 26 yards, Brennen Mendieta rushed for an 18-yard score, and Jaxon Duncan finished with 10 yards.

Through the air, Hunter Withers connected on 7 of 10 passes for 90 yards as Connor Bible hauled in two receptions for 32 yards and scored once, Robinson nabbed two catches for 29 yards, Rex Guerrero grabbed a pair of touchdown catches totaling 27 yards, and Joaquin Rubio caught a 2-yard pass.

Defensively, the Dragons caused two more turnovers – a pair of fumbles recovered by Rubio – and Bangs also generated eight sacks – two each by Ryan Alqorum, Heath Laughlin, and Kian Kelly, and one apiece by Rubio and Duncan.

Tidwell’s 13 tackles were a team-high, and included two for loss, while Alqorum and Robinson added six tackles apiece, Rivas tallied five, and Rubio and Laughlin recorded four each, as Laughlin also notched a team-best three tackles behind the line of scrimmage.

The Dragons’ bye falls next week as Bangs will return to the field Friday, Oct. 10 as it opens District 5-2A Division I action at Ballinger (3-2), which held off Stanton, 21-17, Friday night.
