
GRAHAM – The Brownwood Lady Lions captured the first set in their District 6-4A volleyball opener Tuesday, but was unable to duplicate that success down the stretch as the Graham Lady Blues chalked up a 20-25, 25-13, 25-21, 27-25 triumph.
The Lady Lions (14-12, 0-1), who are seeking their first postseason berth since 2021, received 15 kills from Aniah Hines, eight from Hannah Deen, six from Demayha Hooker, five from Kaydence Chandler, two from Jentry Coalson, and one apiece from Grace Sparks, Lanie Johnson, and Icess Hall.
Hall distributed 36 assists while Johnson, Deen and Chandler each were credited with one. Johnson also recorded three aces trailed by two from Chandler and one apiece by Hall, Deen, Hines and Maddi Scott.
On the defensive end, Johnson’s 18 digs were a team-best along with 12 from Scott, 11 from Hall, nine from Sara Stubblefield, seven from both Hooker and Deen, three from Hines, two apiece from Sparks and Coalson, and one by Chandler.
At the net, Hooker and Chandler registered Brownwood’s two blocks.
The Lady Lions are back in action at 11 a.m. Saturday as they welcome Brock in their first home district match.
