Sally Arline Ballard, 78 of Brownwood passed away on September 20, 2025. Her family will host a visitation from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, September 23rd at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Wednesday at the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood.

Sally was born on September 21, 1946 in Junction, Texas to J. D. and Alta Rae Smith. She married her first husband, Butch Carriger, where they had three children. She went and received her cosmetology license. Sally then married Lee O’Daniel Ballard, and they had 2 children together. In her earlier years, she helped Lee’O run a business, Ballard’s Tree Service, and she also had her own plant nursery. Sally enjoyed reading books, doing word search puzzles, sewing, knitting scarves and blankets and going shopping. Sally loved to watch westerns, her favorite was Gunsmoke and Bonanza, she could tell you every episode.

Sally loved to look nice. She’s known for her signature long blonde hair and rings on every finger. She loved her clothes to be starched and ironed to the max. She also enjoyed spoiling and taking care of her grandkids. Sally enjoyed going to church and was a member of Victory Baptist Church for many years. Lee’O was the love of her life, but she also had another love and that was for Dr. Pepper and winning at Bingo!

Sally is survived by her children, Lee Danielle Ballard and husband Waleed, Daniel Ballard and wife Leeanne, Vince Carriger, Sandy Holder and husband James; brothers Billy Smith, Marvin Smith and Joe Smith; grandchildren, Kayid and Khalid, Grady and Grayson, Brenden, Ashley, Eric Jr, Neelie, Shelby, Molly and Cade; and 5 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lee O’Daniel Ballard, son Gary Wayne Ballard, 2 babies Sonja Arlene Carriger and Lee O’Daniel Ballard, Jr.; her parents J. D. Smith and Alta Rae Smith; brothers Tommy, J. D. and Jimmy Smith.
