Bangs annihilates Abilene TLCA, 71-0, for second win in a row

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons recorded a second consecutive victory, scoring all of 71 points in the first half of a homecoming shutout of the Abilene TLCA Eagles.

Bangs improved to 2-2 with the win, while Abilene TLCA slipped to 0-4.

The Dragons finished with 348 yards of total offense – 237 rushing and 111 passing.

Hunter Withers connected on 4 of 5 passes with touchdown tosses of 52 yards to Connor Bible and 37 yards to Rex Guerrero. Jayden Robinson added a 19-yard reception and Eliseo Rivas pulled down a 3-yard pass.

On the ground, Brennen Mendieta was the top ground gainer with 36 yards trailed by Jackson Edmisten with 36 yards and a touchdown, Dayton Vrana with 34 yards, Jaxon Duncan with 19 yards, and Withers and Damian Hudspeth both scored on 1-yard carries.

Defensively, the Dragons created five turnovers as Tidwell, Bible and Mendieta intercepted passes and Mendieta and Vrana recovered fumbles. Heath Laughlin also recorded a sack. Leading tacklers for Bangs included Cason Tidwell (8 tackles, 2 for loss), Rivas (7 tackles), Ryan Alqorum (6 tackles, 3 for loss), Duncan (5 tackles) and Mendieta (5 tackles).

The Dragons wrap up their pre-district schedule next Friday at Colorado City (0-4), which is coming off a 40-7 loss to Grape Creek. Bangs defeated Grape Creek, 31-26, in Week 3.
