Walter Ray Banks, 68, of Brownwood, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Austin Avenue Church of Christ. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, also at Austin Avenue Church of Christ. Services are under the direction of Brownwood Funeral Home.

Walter was born in Brady, Texas, to Rosvelt Banks and Sarah Lee Robinson Banks. He received his primary education in the Brownwood School District.

Throughout his life, Walter devoted himself to serving others. He volunteered as an undertaker for many years, beginning with Holman Funeral Home and later with Brownwood Funeral Home. He also gave his time to the Brownwood Fire Department, KOXE Radio Station, and Brownwood React. Walter never met a stranger—he was always willing to help and was deeply committed to his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosvelt and Sarah Lee Robinson Banks, and his uncle, Eugene B. Robinson.

Walter leaves behind a host of relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the nurses, hospice facilities, the Brownwood Fire Department, KOXE Radio Station, and a very special thank you to Robert and Mandy Followell, Dallas Huston, and Buddy Preston.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:21

Walter’s life was a testimony of love, service, and kindness. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Online condolences may be left at brownwoodfuneralhome.net.
