
During Tuesday’s meeting of the Brownwood Municipal Development District Board of Directors, outgoing board member Daniel Hutson was recognized for his eight years of service.
Hutson said, “Eight years is a long time. Thanks to the Mayor, the City Council, City Manager Marshal McIntosh and Ray Tipton for letting me serve. We’ve done a lot of projects, big and small. It’s a great board, a great sales tax base, and I’m excited to read about the news going forward.”
Also during the meeting, BMDD Executive Director Ray Tipton told the Board a walk through at the new basketball courts at Coggin Park was expected to take place Wednesday, and completion of the project could happen as early as next week.
Tipton also told the Board that sales tax numbers for the 2024-25 fiscal year finished 6.3% percent above budget, which will result in an extra $143,000 in revenue.
3M will hold an open house for its 60th anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 4, and the community is welcome to tour the facility from 8 to 9:30 a.m. that morning.
Also, Kohler will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Brownwood plant at 3 p.m. Friday Oct. 10.
Tipton also informed the Board that the new role of Assistant Director of Economic Development & Tourism is almost filled, with final interviews being conducted. A selection should be announced in the next few weeks.
Following an executive session, the Board approved a Building Improvement Incentive Program grant not to exceed $12,500 to Super Sudds of Texas, LLC for a property located at 1615 Belle Plain, and a Building Improvement Incentive Program grant not to exceed $25,000 to House of Wheels for a property located at 901 Riverside Dr.
