MASON – The Brownwood High tennis team came up short in a pair of non-district, neutral site matches Saturday, falling to Fredericksburg, 18-1, and Kerrville Tivy, 15-4.
Against Fredericksburg, Brownwood’s lone win came from Aiden Oplotnik in the No. 4 boys singles position, 6-4, 6-4 over Christian Adams.
Versus Kerrville Tivy, winners included Blake Hutchins in the boys No. 1 singles spot (6-4, 6-1 over Ben Carlson), the mixed doubles team of Hutchins and Ashlyn Bundick (6-3, 6-4 over Brody Butler and Carly Goodwyn), Jami Patterson in No. 3 girls singles (8-1 over Macey Godwin), and Ian Cervantes in No. 5 boys singles (6-1, 1-6, 10-8 over Butler).
“Any time you can take wins off a 5A team of that caliber is a good day,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Dalton Hutchins. “Both coaches were very complimentary of our players’ effort and sportsmanship. I’m really proud of the way the kids represented Brownwood this week, even in defeat.”
Brownwood (3-7, 1-0) returns to District 7-4A action at 4 p.m. Thursday at Lampasas
