Howard Payne University will host “A Night of Worship with Matt Papa” on Thursday, October 23 as a free concert for the community. The event will be held at 7 p.m. in L.J. Mims Auditorium. Tickets are free, but reservations are requested as space is limited. The concert is presented by HPU’s Bachelor of Arts in Worship Ministry and sponsored by university friends and several area churches.
Matt Papa is the writer of “His Mercy Is More” and “Christ Our Hope in Life and Death,” and is a three-time Dove Award nominated artist from Marco Island, Florida. He tours regularly across the U.S. as a songwriter with Getty Music and frequently guests on their tours.
“Matt Papa is a gifted musician and songwriter whose works bring both depth and breadth into the modern worshiping church,” said Dr. Chris Rosborough, associate professor of music, director of choral activities and chair of the department of music. “It’s a blessing to provide this opportunity for our campus, alumni and local community. We look forward to worshiping together and highlighting the new Bachelor of Arts in Worship Ministry at HPU.”
On Friday, October 24, Papa will host a short residency with students, alumni and friends of the university. He will focus on the aspect of songwriting and going deeper into the theology and methodology behind writing songs for the church. Spots are limited for this event.
HPU’s Bachelor of Arts in Worship Ministry is a new degree offered through the School of Christian Studies and School of Education and Fine Arts. Students interested in pursuing a vocational career in worship ministry are encouraged to consider this degree with training in theology, music, leadership and ministry. The program is designed to prepare worship ministers to be proactive in the education and application of music in the modern church.
Local churches are encouraged to bring groups to attend the concert on October 23. For ticket reservations, visit www.hputx.edu/a-night-of-worship-with-matt-papa/.
