The Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees met Monday, Sept. 8

During Monday night’s meeting, the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees voted to cancel the Nov. 4 election for Place 6.

Connor Arrington was appointed on May 19 to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Amary Doremus in February. Since no one filed to run against Arrington by the Aug. 18 deadline, there is no need for an election.

During the instruction focus portion of the meeting, Deputy Superintendent Liesa Land recognized teachers Christina Jenkins and Amber Villalpondo from Brownwood Middle School and Tanya Glasscock from Northwest Elementary for their contributions to TEA state committees over the summer.

Land also spoke in regard to the Teacher Incentive Allotment program, which elevates the education profession by providing districts with systems and funding to recruit promising new teachers, and retain their best teachers.

A total 48 BISD teachers were eligible for a combined $479,000, an increase from 34 eligible for a combined $309,000 the year prior. Of the 48 Brownwood ISD teachers involved with TIA, the 19 designated as “recognized” were introduced to those in attendance – Guadalupe Vazquez, Rachel Smiley, Megan Norvil, Amy Goodgion, Angela Bishop, Jillian Tippit, Maura Lillibridge, Emily Lacy, Leslie Warren, Kala Jackson, Cammye Schwing, Kristen Herring, Robin Smith, Serena Miller, Jana Long, Jennifer Mares, Elizabeth Clevenger, Laura Alexander, and Teresa Brandstetter.

Items passed on the consent agenda included fundraisers and out of state travel for the band and choir, who are headed to Florida over spring break; examinations for credit dates; review of library materials for October purchase; the final reading of policy update 125; appointment of members to the Brown County Appraisal District; and the minutes from the Aug. 21 meeting.

The Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees will next meet Monday, Oct. 6.
