The American Legion Post 196 is pleased to announce the 2026 Texas Boys State (TXBS) Program. As you are probably aware, this program is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students in Texas. It is a participatory program where each delegate becomes a part of the operation of local, county, and state governments. Each year over 1,100 highly motivated high school juniors from throughout Texas are provided with this wonderful opportunity to develop leadership skills in a fast-paced, energetic program unlike any other that exists in our state.

We have been notified that registration for TXBS is now open, and will continue until the deadline of 1 May 2026, but it is imperative that you start the process now with your local high schools. Please ensure that your high school counselor knows that you want to participate in the program. We believe that this will be a tremendous year for the Texas Boys and Girls State program! Just for the record, in 2025, American Legion District 21 had 37 young men attend Boys State. For Post 196, American Legion had 7 boys and 1 girl attend this program.

The specific dates for the 2026 Boys State have not been released yet, but as more information becomes available, we’ll forward it on to you as expeditiously as possible. Be sure to check out the webpage at www.texasboysstate.com for even more information regarding the Texas Boys and Girls State program and the application process.

If you have any additional questions or comments regarding the program, please contact the District 21 Texas Boys State coordinator, Larry Miller, either by email at [email protected] or phone him direct at (325) 718-8661.The following school districts of Brownwood, Early, Brookesmith, Blanket and Zephyr are able to apply through Brownwood Post 196. Please note this may be on rotational basis, as the Post CDR will decide on number of applicants for the given year. Ensure you inform American Legion Post 196 if you are interested in this opportunity.
