Brownwood Art Association Fiber and Textile Arts group (BAAFTA) presents its fourth annual show, Aug. 28 – Oct. 1. The BAAFTA group is dedicated to the expression, education and promotion of art through fiber and textiles.

An Opening Reception will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, from 5 to 7, at the Art Center, 215 Fisk, in Downtown Brownwood. The exhibit will be open from 2 to 6 pm, Monday through Friday. All events are open to the public free of charge.

Two Saturday morning demonstrations will be offered as part of the exhibit.  Sept. 6 at 10 am Peggy Makowski will demonstrate hand knitting with different chunky styled yarns, to make a variety of accessories.  Sept. 13 at 10 am Christy Swann will demonstrate making rope bowls with fabrics, threads, yarn, and more.

Visitors are also invited to attend a special BAAFTA meeting and experience demonstrations of various fiber art techniques Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 4 pm at the Art Center.

The group meets the first and third Tuesday of each month, from 2 to 4, at the Art Center. Anyone interested in fiber arts is encouraged to attend. More information is available at www.brownwoodart.org or by calling 325.641-2916.

Formed in 2022 by fiber artists looking for a local forum for their work, BAAFTA has opened new horizons for participants and audiences alike. Susan Scott Smith, BAAFTA facilitator, believes this will be best of the group’s four exhibits.

“Each year, our show has grown, in size, technique and presentation. Our artists have an amazing diversity of talent and expression,” Smith said. “From traditional needlework to conceptual abstract art, our annual BAAFTA show always brings a new perspective to our art community.”

Smith noted the BAAFTA group has always emphasized education and the open sharing of technique and medium. “We share our craft and our technique –whether it be stitching or knitting or anything involving textiles — and our members take those basic ideas to new levels with their individual creative inspiration.”

The Art Center, at 215 Fisk Ave. in downtown Brownwood, is open 2 to 6 pm, Monday through Friday. For further information on the Brownwood Art Association or the Fiber and Textile Arts group, follow the BAA on Facebook, call 325-641-2916, or visit www.brownwoodart.org,
