Early volleyball posts 4-2 record at Bronte tournament

Kailyn Gallardo (4) and the Lady Horns (17-3) are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Coleman

BRONTE – The Early Lady Horns opened Bronte volleyball tournament action Friday with three more victories, but finished Saturday with a 1-2 record.

On Friday, the Lady Horns won their first three matches over host Bronte, 25-11, 25-12; Cornerstone Christian, 25-14, 25-12; and the Ballinger JV, 25-19, 25-5.

Against Bronte, Aubrie DeVillier led the way with 10 kills followed by Jensyn Rasor with three, Cassidy Frerichs with two and Grey Pruett, Kailyn Gallardo and Ellie Shea with one apiece.

Pruett dished out 10 assists along with three from Frerichs and one from Gallardo.

Gallardo served three aces trailed by Pruett with two, and Rasor, Gabby Benson and Tiffany Phelps with one each

Defensively, DeVillier and Gallardo each logged six digs along with four from Pruett, Frerichs with three, Benson and Rasor with two each, and Phelps with one.

At the net, Rasor, Pruett and Frerichs each picked up one block.

Versus Cornerstone Christian, Rasor amassed 10 kills followed by Pruett with four, DeVillier with three, and Frerichs with two.

Pruett finished with 10 assists and Frerichs added five, while Rasor and Pruett each served three aces joined by DeVillier with two, and Benson and Gallardo with one each

On the defensive end, digs leaders were Benson with nine, DeVillier with six, Pruett, Gallardo and Frerichs with four each, Rasor and Shea with two apiece, and Jaime Lyon with one.

Rasor and Pruett also finished with one block each.

In the match with the Ballinger JV, Rasor produced seven kills followed by DeVillier with six, Shea with four, Frerichs with two, and Pruett with one.

Pruett contributed 11 assists along with five from Frerichs, while aces belonged to Rasor, Pruett and Benson.

Standing out defensively were Benson with nine digs along with DeVillier with six, Pruett and Frerichs with four each, Gallardo with three, and Lyon and Tiffany Phelps

At the net, Rasor picked up two more blocks.

Saturday action began with just the second setback of the season, 16-25, 25-15, 25-21 to San Angelo TLCA.

DeVillier notched 12 kills trailed by Rasor with four, Shea and Pruett with two each and Frerichs with one.

Pruett distributed 13 assists with two from Frerichs, and Pruett also served a pair of aces while Benson added one.

Benson also led the team with 19 digs followed by four each from Pruett and DeVillier, three from Gallardo and two from Frerichs.

Shea chalked up six blocks at the net, Pruett added three and Rasor was credited with one.

Early regrouped for a 25-16, 25-15 triumph over Sterling City as DeVillier racked up 10 kills followed by five from Rasor, four from Pruett, two from Gallardo and one by Shea.

Frerichs finished with 11 assist and Pruett added 10 with three aces, and Gallardo also served an ace.

Benson’s 16 digs were a team-high along with nine by DeVillier, three by Pruett, two by Gallardo and one apiece by Rasor, Frerichs and Shea.

At the net, Rasor, Pruett and Shea collected blocks.

The weekend finale against Miles was a 13-25, 25-14, 25-15 setback against Miles as Rasor logged nine kills trailed by DeVillier with six, Gallardo with a pair, and Shea with one.

Pruett recorded 16 assists along with two from Frerichs, while Gallardo and Pruett each served an ace.

On defense, Benson tallied 10 digs followed by eight from DeVillier, seven from Gallardo, four from Pruett, three from Rasor, and one each from Phelps and Frerichs.

Shea and Pruett each amassed four blocks and Rasor contributed one.

The Lady Horns (17-3) are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday as they travel to Coleman.
