Jerry Lon and Laura Lynn (Lewis) McKenzie passed away at the same time from medical issues on Saturday, August 23, 2025. A Celebration of their Life will be held in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Laura was born in Brownfield, Texas to Clyde Raymond and Joy Irene (Jeter) Lewis on February 6, 1953. She married Jerry Lon McKenzie March 3, 1980 and spent her life as a homemaker taking care of Jerry and raising a family. Laura was an amazing seamstress; she and her sister started a small company called “The Sisters” that they worked at for several years. Laura loved to spend countless hours on the lake with Jerry fishing. Laura was known for her quick wit, DIY crafts and supporting her children into adulthood. Once retiring at North Lake Brownwood with her husband, they could always be found playing games with cherished friends or taking it easy with a simple crossword puzzle.

Jerry was born in O’donell, Texas on April 20, 1950 to William Henry and Charlene (Stinnet) McKenzie. He attended Loop ISD and began a career in the oil industry after high school at Amerada Hess in Adair, Texas. Jerry and Laura were married on March 3rd, 1980 where they blended a family with 3 daughters each from previous marriages and one daughter together, they made a home! Jerry loved to wet a hook and take family and friends on a boat to catch whatever was biting. When not on the boat, Jerry thoroughly enjoyed throwing his daughters off the innertube for a laugh. Jerry retired with Laura at North Lake Brownwood in 2017 where he lived out his senior years with love and laughter, surrounded by his daughters, grandchildren and his best friend, Laura. They will be remembered forever by their love for their family, true friendships and love for one another.

Jerry and Laura McKenzie were called home together at the same time, God knew that he couldn’t leave one of them behind.

Jerry and Laura are survived by their daughters, Jayme Delay and husband Jason of Abilene, Julie Chisum of Lubbock, Carrie Chisum of Lubbock, Jodie Oates and husband Jeff of Waco, Amanda Williams and fiancé Billy Haveman of Lubbock, Kimberly McKenzie of Oklahoma and April McKenzie and fiancé, Ty Glaser of Buda, Texas and former son-in-law, Brandon Williams of Lubbock, Texas; grandchildren, Makaela Delay, Bryson Delay, Charles Bettis, Andrew Bettis, Brock Bettis, Keileigh Williams, Bryson Haveman, Charlene McKenzie , Tommy McKenzie, and Jackson Ray; siblings, Mike McKenzie, Roger McKenzie, Pam Yocom, Charla Scott, Sharon Chambliss; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jerry and Laura were preceded in death by their parents, Irene and Clyde Lewis, Charlene McKenzie and Bill McKenzie, and sister, Nita Blount.
