Blake Hutchins collected a singles victory and was part of the mixed doubles win, with Ashlyn Bundick, Thursday for Brownwood (1-4), which next hosts Graham on Aug. 28

SAN ANGELO – The gut-wrenching losses continued Thursday for the Brownwood High tennis team, which suffered its third loss by three points or less, 10-9 to San Angelo Lake View.

Brownwood (1-4) – which has also fallen to Copperas Cove, 11-8, and Keller Fossil Ridge, 10-9, of late – won six singles matches and three in doubles against Lake View.

Leading the charge was boys singles, which claimed five of the victories by No. 1 Blake Hutchins (8-3 over EJ Campos), No. 2 Eric Smith (8-2 over Saxton Hanson), No. 3 Trine Baugh (8-1 over Omar Ramirez-Dominguez), No. 5 Cooper Morgan (8-1 over Eddie Hernandez) and No. 6 Ian Cervantes (8-0 over Sergio Martinez-Mendoza).

In doubles action, winners were the No. 1 Lions tandem of Baugh and Smith (8-4 over EJ Campos and Isaac Campos), No. 2 Lions duo Cervantes and Aiden Oplotnik (8-5 over Hansen and Hernandez) and the mixed doubles pairing of Hutchins and Ashlyn Bundick (8-0).

For the Lady Lions, No. 5 singles player Gigi Rodriguez (8-2) tacked on a victory as well.

The Lions and Lady Lions are next in action at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 as they host Graham.
