‘Out of the Box’ with Dallas Huston: No rules for college football

You know its time as we are approaching late August, the middle of August, I guess it’s time to go out on a limb and pick the college National Champion for this year and maybe not. It’s strange this year, very, very strange. I couldn’t believe it when I first looked at it.

I finally figured that basically, in my opinion, this will be college football 2025 or whatever with no rules. NO rules! We were going to experiment last year with basically no rules. You could line up and visit as many teams as you would like and find out what it was good for. I mean, you couldn’t find a slicker situation anywhere in the National Football League. There was no such thing as rules in college football, or so it seemed. From kickoff to the final buzzer it’s the same. Now kids play for money and rules regarding that are wide open.

They had this as an experiment a couple of years ago. An experiment? If I had the University of Texas quarterback, I won’t even go into both of them, Quin Ewers took up some, but the Manning kid? Manning is getting millions – millions I said. I think six million and some odd dollars was the last total I saw on him and it’s totally legal. So, I think he’s the highest paid, but there may be somebody else up there too. These are not like college kids that are, you know, they’re getting it. I’m not sure what all they are getting, but they are getting money. You can start out and have four dollars in your pocket when you start working out in August and in two week time you could have four million dollars! I mean it’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. Texas Tech is getting tons of money. Keep your eye on them.

What’s the difference in a kid that makes forty million and a kid that makes four hundred? They are still getting paid to play college football. Now, does that weaken anybody? Does that make anybody any stronger? I don’t know. I’ve never gone in it this deep. I’ve never heard of this. So, football has crossed the line. I don’t know if it will be good or bad for the teams, I just don’t know.

Football is just football but this time it will be for money and then it will be for whatever. I don’t know where it’s going to end but I know this much, football will always be a factor. Football will always, always have something. I don’t know what, but I know that things will happen this year that will be different – much, much, much different.

The National Champion? TEXAS!

Until next time, so long everybody.
