The education department at Ron Jackson State Juvenile Correctional Facility hosted a career day last month with participation from several local businesses and military recruiters.
The job recruiters set up stations to answer questions about their specific careers offered, and what skills and education are needed to get hired.
Prior to the event, the youth studied and discussed the different careers that would be there, and came up with different questions that they could ask.
Thanks to the dedication of Program Specialist Brittney Blair and Assistant Principal Brandon Spencer, the event included the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas State Technical College, Army, Marines, United Supermarkets, Brownwood Fire Department, UTMB Nursing, a diesel mechanic, a barber, a landscaping business, Home Depot, car detailing and IT.
TJJD Asst. Superintendent of Education Robert Fischer said that the vendors had good things to say about the youth, noting how positive, courteous and prepared they were, and that they asked good questions.
Lone Star HW West Principal Helen Spearman said the event was a huge success and thanked staff and the volunteers who participated and provided refreshments.
