Henry Lewis Hogan was born in Granite, Oklahoma, on September 20, 1941, to Clark and Lillie Mae Hogan. He grew up in the small town of Granite where cousins lived nearby and, alongside his two brothers, formed one big, happy, and sometimes mischievous country clan. They spent endless hours roaming the countryside, making memories that lasted a lifetime.
Henry attended Granite schools and was a natural athlete. He participated in 4-H, track, basketball, and baseball, and was known for his ability to run and never seem to tire. After practices, it became a tradition for coaches to call out, “Lead them out, Hogan!”—and off he would go, leading a two-mile run to finish the day.
He graduated from Granite High School in 1959 and went on to Harding College, where he played basketball. He later transferred to Oklahoma Christian College. One ordinary fall day during chapel, something extraordinary happened—Henry fell asleep and fell out of his chair! A beautiful girl a few chairs down started giggling. That laughter and smile changed everything.
On March 15, 1961, Henry married that girl—the love of his life, Nita Kay Langdon. Together, they built a life full of love and laughter. Their journey took them to Oklahoma City, OK; Yukon, OK; Jenks, OK; Bryan, TX; Rockwall, TX; back to their roots in Elmore City, OK and finally to Brownwood. Along the way, they raised four daughters—whom Henry fondly referred to as his “Board of Directors”—welcomed sons-in-law, enjoyed grandchildren, and cheered—often and loudly—for their beloved Oklahoma Sooners.
Henry had a deep love for his church family and found joy in leading singing, serving as a deacon and elder, and sharing in the lives of those around him. He and Nita enjoyed camping trips, game nights, domino matches, raising horses, and countless moments with friends and family.
For most of his career, Henry worked as a truck salesman. His gift for conversation, easy humor, and genuine care for people made him a natural in that role.
Henry is survived by his brother, Jerry Hogan of Bryan, TX; four daughters, Angela Joyce (Glenn) of Hilltop Lakes, TX; Tani Joiner (Kelly) of Mayflower, AR; Kerri Jacobs (Tim) of Brownwood, TX; and Amy Attaway of Longview, TX; eleven grandchildren—Krystal Joyce Lineburger, Hallie Joiner House, Christopher Joyce, Hannah Joiner George, Weston Jacobs, Chance Phillips, Katy Jacobs Taylor, Hope Joiner Biggs, Kyndal Phillips, Wyatt Jacobs, and Kamille Jacobs; nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clark and Lillie Mae Hogan; his in-laws, Leo and Carneal Langdon; his brother, Edward Hogan; sisters-in-law Myrna Hogan and Patti Hogan; and his beloved wife, Nita Hogan.
Henry passed from this life on Sunday, August 3, 2025, surrounded by his four daughters. He left this world knowing how deeply he was loved. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his love of horses, his devotion to family, and, of course, his lifelong passion for Sooner sports.
A Celebration of Henry’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 17, 2025, in the Austin Avenue Church of Christ Family Life Center.
