The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:
On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at approximately 4:45 p.m., 21-year-old Tatum Octavia Renee Riley and 25-year-old Christina Renae Dominguez, both of Brownwood, arrived at the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center to turn themselves in on warrants. The 35th District Court in Brown County issued warrants for both females for Manslaughter and two counts of Injury to a Child. This arrest is the result of an investigation that began in 2023.
On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of Main St. for a medical emergency. The caller reported to 911 that a 2-year-old female child was not breathing. While on 911, the caller stated that they were now in a vehicle and driving the child to the Hendrick-Brownwood emergency room.
All attempts at the emergency room to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful and she was pronounced deceased. It is believed that the child ingested a foreign substance, causing this medical emergency. Given the unknown circumstances surrounding the death of this child, investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division were contacted and an investigation commenced.
Throughout the investigation, interviews were conducted and evidence obtained until the case was completed and presented to the July session of the Brown County Grand Jury.
Both of those arrested were babysitting the child at the time of the emergency, the Brownwood Police Department added, and both have bonds totaling $300,000.
