Jane Elizabeth (Morris) Truett, age 69, of Idalou, Texas passed from this life on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at the University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on December 21, 1955 to Wendell and Coleita (Smith) Morris in Brownwood, Texas. Jane attended Brownwood public schools and graduated from Brownwood High School in 1974. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Shortly after graduation, Jane married Rynn Truett and they built their life together on a cotton farm in Idalou. Jane and Rynn were blessed with two sons, Blake and Kent. Jane worked as the director of a day care center in Lubbock for four years followed by four years with the Idalou Chamber of Commerce. She then became a stay-at-home mom until their boys were in high school when Jane became an Academic Advisor for undeclared or Arts and Sciences majors at her beloved Texas Tech University. This, by far, was the career she loved most and was meant to have. Over her 13-year career at the University Advising Center, Jane helped thousands of students explore options, refine career goals and develop plans for academic success. Always with a positive “you can do it” parting phrase and warm smile or hug for each of them, she earned the title of “Mama Jane” by many of the students she helped. Upon her retirement, Jane and Rynn enjoyed traveling to many states and they especially enjoyed taking cruises. Together, they spent many days in the mountains of Ruidoso, New Mexico, which was always a favorite destination.
Jane loved her family and her life in the Idalou community, and it was magnified by the love she had for her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Rynn Truett of Idalou; son Blake Truett and wife Ruth, grand-daughters, Auden and Isla also of Idalou; son Kent Truett and wife Cheryl, grand-daughters Amelia and Vivienne of Mico, Texas; and her sister, Mariann Morris Tackett and husband Rex of Brownwood.
Jane’s family would like to thank their many friends, family and her former students for their prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Idalou Meals on Wheels program at P.O. Box 112, Idalou, Texas 79329.
A private family burial at the Idalou Cemetery was followed by a Celebration of Life service at Idalou First Baptist Church on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
“A woman who trusts in God never gives up. She might need a cup of coffee, a good cry, or even a day in bed. But she always rises, stronger than before.” – Women of Prayer
