Hannah Arrington

A 2010 graduate of Brownwood High School, Hannah Arrington will embark on her third year of teaching at Coggin Elementary in August.

Arrington has shown to be a jack of all trades throughout her teaching career.

“My first year teaching, I was the fourth grade Science and Social Studies teacher after being the Computer Aide,” Arrington said. “Last year, I was moved to Math. While I was absolutely terrified at first, it’s now my favorite. I’m so excited to be teaching Math and Science this year.”

Arrington’s desire to join the teaching field began at a young age.

“Teaching is something I had always thought about doing,” Arrington said. “I still remember being little and playing ‘school’ with my little cousin. I guess it’s something I’ve enjoyed since I was young. It wasn’t until I worked as a Computer Aide that I was like, ‘Yes, I love this.’ The kids are so much fun. Getting to know them and building those relationships with them is everything.”

Reflecting on her time as a student, Arrington spoke about one of the teachers that influenced her life.

“My fifth and sixth grade teacher Mrs. Nancy Byler, her heart and love for all of her students was inspiring and is something I still carry with me and strive to be that for my students,” Arrington said.

After graduating from Brownwood High School, Arrington said, “I was kind of all over the place. I originally attended Tarleton, then Texas Wesleyan for a year, but eventually graduated with my Bachelor’s in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University. I’m almost done obtaining my Teaching Certification through Teachers of Tomorrow.”

As for the most rewarding aspect of her job, Arrington said, “It has to be the students. Getting to know these kids, making connections, and watching them grow is so fulfilling and just plain fun.”

Looking ahead to her future as an educator, Arrington said, “For me personally, I’m excited to grow more confident and comfortable with the subjects I’m teaching. Since I’ve had a year of teaching both Science and Math, I’m excited to jump into this year knowing exactly what I need to do and take care of business.”

Hannah and her husband Connor, who is a member of the BISD Board of Trustees, have two children – 6-year-old Eleanor, who will attend to Northwest Elementary, and 18-month-old Theo.
