From a homeschool education, Amanda Cantu has spent the last eight years of her life influencing youngsters, with the last four being spent at Brown County Christian School.
“My first in-school job was as a teacher assistant and I honestly didn’t realize how intriguing and fun it is teaching little ones,” Cantu said. “I fell in love with it.”
Cantu’s teaching journey began in the Metroplex.
“I’ve been teaching for eight years,” she said. “I started as a teacher assistant at Rooted Life Montessori in Burleson for four years and slowly took on more, including IM (interactive metronome) therapy helping children with learning differences like dyslexia, ADHD, and autism. I’m currently teaching at Brown County Christian School and I’ve been there four years.”
At Brown County Christian, Cantu teaches Pre-K 4.
“They’re amazing,” Cantu said of her students. “I enjoy walking alongside each one as they embrace learning, find what works for them, and begin to see who they are in Jesus.”
Cantu’s route to becoming an educator was different compared to most, as she did not attend a public school or college.
“Being homeschooled, my mom taught me and she made learning so much fun,” Cantu said. “She had a lot of grace, patience, and worked hard making memories for us. She’s a huge inspiration to me.”
The most rewarding aspect of teaching, Cantu said, is, “The relationships with each of the children, they’re absolutely beautiful little ones.”
As for what she looks forward to most in her role as an educator, Cantu said, “The opportunities and amount of growth the next generation will have to build on the foundation we as teachers are laying.”
