Dallas Huston, “Voice of the Brownwood Lions” for 58 years and “Voice of the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets” for 57 years, pictured in the AT&T Stadium press box.

The computer looking thing at Brownwood High School is inching toward its finish line. I say the computer-type thing, it’s part of the renovations.

It started at the stadium which by the way is looking pretty good. Now, the far side of the stadium is still about the same, new stairs and a ramp is installed for ADA access. The far side of the stadium now has all new seating, part of which is maroon seat backs and part of which can be disguised as white or the original type seats. Now, it’s the same size until you get to the top and the top is going to be different. It’s still the same press box this year but a new one next year. It will be two to three times the size of this one. A thousand more seats will be added. So, you take the one we have now which we’ve had all these years and you take it off. You take it off totally and add a thousand new seats skyward and then the new one comes on. It’s enormous! I can’t wait for it. I can’t wait but I have to just like all of you have to.

This year, most of the new stuff is at the high school. There are improvements all over. They are all over the place and I don’t have time to go through all of them and they either have been or will be totally completed. The new thing at the high school though is that gargantuous building! You can see it when you turn off 4th street and you go down whatever that street is. It is an amazing accomplishment.

It’s the indoor – I don’t know what they officially call it – the indoor facility. It’s that “thing” that rises above everything out in the vicinity of the high school. You should just drive out by there and give a look see. It’s the new thing…it’s whatever you want to call it. It’s the indoor workout facility but it’s for all sports and includes the band. It’s for any sport that wants to play in it I guess. It is magnificent! It’s like 100 yards long, something like that, but it’s amazing! It is fully contained. I don’t know how to describe it. It is beautiful!

The thing was practically done and I was blown away by it and then they said they didn’t have the astro turf in yet – yet! Yeah, now it’s there. The astro turf is in. It’s a hundred and some odd yards long. It is astro turf. Now it’s covered and it is spectacular looking!

Now you’ve got that and that and that. You’ve got the baseball park, the softball park and it’s all coming together. The astro turf in the ball parks and everything. The ball parks were ready in essence last year. Now they will be complete with concession stands, restrooms, and so forth and so on. Anyway, it is gorgeous! If you haven’t seen it lately just drive by and just imagine. That’s all going to be finished. It’s all going to be done. It’s just a matter of time and it’s done very shortly.

The stadium thing will happen next year but it is exciting! It’s exciting to look at and I think it’s going to be marvelous. I’ve been excited about this. I’ve been drooling at the mouth to be honest with you, but it is spectacular looking. Even if you didn’t vote for it, you have to be excited. It is absolutely, beyond question, one of the great things they have ever done at the high school.

A lot of this stuff hasn’t been touched since the early 70’s but it’s worth waiting for. The workout room with the astro turf and everything. Everything about it is new and special and it’s just spectacular! The indoor workout facility, the new stuff at the stadium which will include the press box and elevator, will be done next year but this thing is some kind of special. If you voted for it, you will be as excited as I am.

Until next time, so long everybody.
