At today’s meeting of the Brown County Water Improvement District Board of Directors, approval was given to a new budget and to the wholesale price of water. The District budget for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, which begins September 1, is $4,714,900, an increase of 5.2% over the current budget.
The new price of treated water, which will also begin September 1, will be $2.2175 per thousand gallons, an increase of 1.16%. Treated water is sold to the Cities of Brownwood, Early, and Bangs, as well as the Zephyr Water Supply and Brookesmith Special Utilities District. Those entities will consider the new wholesale cost of water when setting the retail price of water in their new fiscal budgets.
The price of untreated water, for industrial use, will remain unchanged at $1.0547 per thousand gallons.
The price of untreated water for agricultural use will be set in December, to be effective January 1. The current price is $62.00 per acre-foot.
