Four local golfers win championships on WTJCT stop at Brownwood Country Club

Four local golfers won championships in their divisions at the West Texas Junior Champions Tour stop at the Brownwood Country Club Tuesday.

Reigning two-time Class 1A boys golf state champion Walt Thompson of Goldthwaite won the 15-18 year old boys division with a round of 7-under par 65, five shots better than runner-up Graham Prokop of Llano. Also in that division, Brownwood’s Ryder Calvert tied for fourth place with a 77 and Peyton Sharp, also from Brownwood, was seventh with a score of 79. Goldthwaite’s Owen Campbell tied for 14th place with an 84 and Brownwood’s Kingston England finished tied for 20th with a round of 88.

Meanwhile, among boys 14-15 year olds, Brownwood’s Sheriff Jones fired a round of 4-over par 76 for a one-stroke victory over Trevor Bellah of Albany. Brownwood’s Layton Kemp tied for fifth place with a round of 80.

In the college age division, Caleb Modawell of Brownwood finished tied first first place with a 5-under par round of 67, and defeated Kyle Mahan of San Antonio in a three-hole playoff to capture the championship. Brownwood’s Sir Bubba Jones came in third with a 2-over par 74.

And in the 8-9 year old coed 9-hole division, Early’s Preston Beal placed first with a round of 40.
