Brownwood City Manager Marshall McIntosh handed out lunch at the Senior Citizens Center on Thursday afternoon.
Regarding his day at the Senior Citizens Center, McIntosh said, “I was able to go on a ride along with Weldon for our homebound meal. So I got to do a route with him, deliver those to different residents in Brownwood. It’s always great to meet additional people, both staff and residents.”
McIntosh said his goal is to further understand how the different departments of the city operate. “The city has around 34 different departments. Those are almost 34 different businesses that I have the opportunity to learn and help. That’s what’s exciting to me is getting to know the people and then learning all of our different processes, as well as everything else throughout the city.”
As for what he can take away from his experience today, McIntosh said, “Understanding from a frontline perspective what that looks like for individual staff members, but also the value of individual service throughout our departments. Not just the senior citizens, but throughout each department and what that contributes to what the city is providing for the community.”
McIntosh says he has been settling in his new role well and being at the city for 10 years has helped that.
Senior Citizens Director Angie Deefs, who is going on her 19th year with the department, said she was excited to see McIntosh getting involved in other departments. “This is a lot of the voting community that comes here and they need to see who he is, because when you see a face or hear a name, you don’t know the heart of the person. And just being able to spend five or 10 minutes with him, they’ll be able to know the heart of the person and know that we are important to him, or to the city, and he’s going to continue to stand behind us on that. We are highly blessed because we have the backing of the city.”
