I guess it’s time we caught up on some stuff that’s been happening.
Believe it or not, the draft of the NBA took place. I know the draft of the NHL, which is hockey, took place. It seems like something else that I’ve forgotten.
Anyway, I know nothing about the NHL. I watched the draft for a few minutes and still knew absolutely nothing. But they held the draft and some kids were very happy. I just can’t go beyond that.
The NBA draft was interesting because it involved the Dallas Mavericks. Everybody, including me, thought they had shot themselves in the foot when they traded Luka Doncic. The Mavericks looked dead and gone. Mark Cuban sold them and so I gave them no hope and I criticized them greatly but they’re lucky. Thank goodness they’re lucky. They had a less chance of winning the draft than probably four or five teams in front of them that had better odds. But, the Mavericks won the draft and they got to select the kid that everybody felt like was the number one choice in the NBA draft. They get him and whether he is or not is still a question. He sure looks good. I think the kid, Cooper Flag, is seven foot tall and out of Duke. They now have great odds which they had none at the start of it and it’s all because they won the thing. It was just a random pick. I think they were about the fifth or sixth pick and they won the draft with less odds than four or five teams. The player is a good one!
The fans were totally upset because they traded and when they traded were ridiculed basically by everybody in the NBA. They had new owners and they had no personality and of course Mark Cuban had one. Then, they get this kid and everybody is in love with the management and the kid and everything is good in Dallas now. The Mavericks – I can’t wait until preseason – just to see if this kid fits in and see if he is going to be “the guy” and average like twenty-five a game and they’ll win the NBA.
By the way, speaking of the NBA, Oklahoma City won the thing and they are just, I don’t know, I don’t want to say they’re terrible. They’re not terrible. I watched the series. I was pulling for Indiana and the reason was because when it got a little later in that series, it became very apparent that Indiana just looked like…well, let me put it this way.
Number one, they have Rick Carlisle as a coach. Number two they had some players that I had never heard of but they played real well.
And then you go to the other side. Oklahoma City had a coach who was all right. He looked okay. He acted fine. But, the thing that bothered me about them was that…they had some players that ridiculed and talked derogatorily about Indiana. Indiana had a couple of players who were decent enough but one of them, their best player, gets hurt and I mean hurt bad. They were devastated by that. They get to game seven and he plays what, three minutes or so, and goes down again. He doesn’t play anymore. I’ll tell you, I think had he played, they would have made a run at it and might have won the thing. That’s how drastic it was. Then, after the game one or two of the Oklahoma City players put him down and ran the team down and that it had no effect on the ballgame
I think Indiana should have won it. Oklahoma City did but they will not next year.
Until next time, so long everybody.
