Velma E. Grumbles Poe

Velma E. Grumbles Poe, 85, of San Saba, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025 at San Saba Nursing and Rehabilitation. A visitation for Velma will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home in San Saba. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Hurst Ranch Cemetery in Hamilton, Texas and will be officiated by Pastor Barry Fikes. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home in San Saba.

Velma was born on August 8, 1939 in Goldthwaite, Texas, to Delma Edward Grumbles and Leta Merle Blodgett Grumbles. On August 8, 1958 she married Raymond “Corky” Poe in San Saba and they spent 50 wonderful years together before his passing in 2008. Velma worked for Eventide Nursing Home for a number of years prior to working at the TDCJ. She loved travelling, playing bingo, and was a longtime member of San Saba’s Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond “Corky” Poe, and her parents Delma Edward Grumbles and Leta Merle Blodgett Grumbles.

Velma is survived by her children, Laurie Kim and Husband Joseph “Buster” Wells, Kelli and husband Bill Hubbard, and Mike and Tina Poe; grandchildren John Michael and wife Christan Poe and Winston and wife Elizabeth Poe; great-grandchildren Hayley, Luke, Zoe, Chloe and Tate; sister, Sharon Ellis; sister-in-law, Laura and husband J.T. Bryant as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the San Saba County Friends of Animals: P.O. Box 423 San Saba, Tx. 76877 or the San Saba Volunteer Fire Department: P.O. Box 331 San Saba, Tx. 76877.
