The City of Brownwood will begin a citywide storm siren replacement project on Monday, June 23, 2025. The project is scheduled for completion by Tuesday, July 1, 2025. During this time, service provided by the storm sirens may be interrupted.
The project involves the full replacement of the City’s twelve aging sirens with new technology capable of automatic activation by the National Weather Service, providing more accurate and targeted alerts during severe weather. The upgrade is funded through a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant awarded in partnership with the Texas Department of Emergency Management. The $368,542 grant covers 90% of the total cost, with the City of Brownwood providing a 10% match.
Residents are advised to remain weather aware during the replacement period and to monitor trusted news outlets, NOAA weather radio, and mobile weather alerts for emergency notifications.
